2014 Tryout schedule will be announced spring 2014.

  • To reduce registration time at tryouts, all players (including current FC Somers players) wishing to attend tryouts must pre-register online.
  • If a current FC Somers player does not register for tryouts, it will be assumed that they do not wish to be considered for a team.
  • Tryout participation does not imply team placement.
  • Parents are required to stay for the tryout.

Participants should bring the following items to tryouts:
Soccer Ball, Drink, Shin-guards & Completed Registration & Parental Consent Form.

TRAVEL COMMITMENT Unlike in-town recreational soccer, the expectation level for travel soccer is much greater: both physically and financially. We are asking that only children and parents willing to make a full 10 month commitment participate in the tryouts.  A typical season will run from early September to late June. Players are expected to attend 2 weekly practice sessions (1 to 1.5 hrs ea.) with a professional, nationally-licensed trainer. As a member of the Westchester Youth Soccer League, games are held on Sundays and teams will travel throughout Westchester, the Bronx and Manhattan. Once a week winter indoor practices are a team based decision. Most teams will participate in a min. of 3 tournaments (Labor Day, Columbus Day and Memorial Day). The total full year cost to play in FC Somers will vary by team, but can range from $500 to $900 — which will include all costs (league play, tournaments, uniforms, training fees). Scholarships are available. Some FC Somers teams play at a Premier level, through USYSA or US Club Soccer. This entails an even higher level of competition and commitment, often with much further travel (throughout the Northeast states), more training, and greater financial cost.

TRYOUT REGISTRATION All interested players MUST register online. If you have an account, login. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one.  Please register for the appropriate age group/division that your child expects to play in during the Fall 2013/Spring 2014 season.   Once you register you will receive an email which contains a Registration & Parental Consent Form. Please bring the completed form to the tryouts. We will NOT supply extra copies of the form. If you do not submit a completed form when checking in your child(ren), then he/she/they will not receive a tryout t-shirt and will not be allowed to participate in the tryout.

TRYOUT DAY – PLEASE TO ARRIVE 10-15 MINS PRIOR TO TRYOUT TIME   Arrive ready to tryout with a ball, water, shinguards, and parental consent form; Check in at the registration table, and indicate if your child is trying out as a keeper; Receive and put your child’s numbered tryout t-shirt on them, bring the t-shirt to ALL tryouts; If you are an existing FC Somers player, DO NOT wear any FC Somers or other youth soccer jersey to the tryouts.

TRYOUT FORMAT AND EVALUATION Players will be evaluated by our own nationally-licensed trainers – evaluators whom the Club feels are impartial, and qualified. Generally, small-sided games will be emphasized. The group of evaluators — along with the current team’s trainer — in consultation with the FC Somers board will make the final recommendation on player placement.

NOTIFICATION OF TRYOUT RESULTS/TEAM FORMATION Tryout results will be communicated to parents/players by email. The Club will advise outcomes as close to the end of each current team’s season as possible in order to avoid any disruption to remaining games.
