We encourage players to complete referee courses and ref developmental soccer games each Sunday afternoon, during the season.
Overall, Somers relies on youth and adult referees every weekend to cover in-town and travel games, if you are not currently a referee or haven’t refereed in a few years and are interested in becoming qualified/re-qualified, read on!
There are three referee opportunities for Somers residents:
AYSO REFEREE (IN-TOWN) For Core (in-town) games youth referees are needed to cover kindergarten and 1st grade Micro Soccer. In addition, courses are available for 4th graders and up (must be age 10+), including adults, to learn how to cover grades 2 – 12.
WSRO/FC SOMERS YOUTH REFEREE (U9-U11 REFEREE) FC Somers seeks youth travel players, on an ongoing basis to ref U9-U11 developmental travel soccer home games. Interested youth must attend an age appropriate Westchester Soccer Referee Organization (WSRO) course (Grade 8 for U14 and below, Grade for U15 and above). Given the intensity of travel games we recommend that players are a minimum of 13 years of age when they start the training process, and for the first few seasons they will only work the side-lines as an Assistant Referee. Experience as an AYSO referee is not required.
