Players must register for their own age group. If a player wishes to try out to “Play Up”, you need permission from Mark Hopper.  If a player is unavailable for dates noted please contact a tryout coordinator.  Tryout dates are subject to change.   It is important you register so you can be contacted in the event of tryout changes.

  • All interested players (including current FC Somers players) must pre-register.
  • If a current FC Somers player does not register for tryouts, it will be assumed that they do not wish to be considered for a team.
  • Tryout participation does not imply team placement.
  • Tryouts are drop-off – we encourage parents not to stay.  A designated parents area will be available, if necessary.

Participants should bring the following items to tryouts:  Soccer Ball, Drink, and Shin-guards.

TRYOUT REGISTRATION: All interested players MUST register online. If you have an account, login. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one.  Please register for the appropriate birth year.   If the player is a goalkeeper be sure to indicate during registration.

TRYOUT DAY REMINDERS: Bring a soccer ball, drink, and shinguards. Do not wear any FC Somers apparel. Arrive 10-15 mins prior, to warmup. Tryouts are drop-off – parents are not encouraged to stay.

TRYOUT FORMAT AND EVALUATION: Players will be evaluated by  nationally-licensed trainers who are impartial, and qualified. Small-sided games will be emphasized. The group of evaluators — along with the current team’s trainer — in consultation with the FC Somers Board will make the final recommendation on player placement.

NOTIFICATION OF TRYOUT RESULTS/TEAM FORMATION: Tryout results will be communicated to parents/players by email as soon as they are available.  This is a change to previous years, in order to expedite player registration.

TRAVEL COMMITMENT: The expectation level for travel soccer is much greater than in-town/core, both physically and financially. We are asking that only players and parents willing to make a full 10 month commitment participate in the tryouts.  A typical season runs from early September to late June.  Teams participating in the Westchester Youth Soccer League: Players are expected to attend 2 weekly in-season practice sessions (1 to 1.5 hrs ea.) with a professional, nationally-licensed trainer.  Games are held on Sunday and teams travel throughout Westchester, the Bronx and Manhattan. Once a week winter indoor practices are held. Most teams will participate in a min. of 3 tournaments (Labor Day, Columbus Day and Memorial Day). The average full year cost to play in FC Somers is in the region of $1,100 (Club registration, league play, tournaments, training fees).  Premier level teams (USYSA or US Club Soccer): requires a higher level of competition and commitment, often with much further travel (throughout the Northeast states), more training, and greater financial cost.  Scholarships are available.  Uniforms are extra and must be ordered through our vendor Soccer Post of Bedford Hills, more information will be forthcoming upon selection to a team.
